The 2019 University of Chester Talent Show held its final auditions on Wednesday the 4th December 2019 at Parkgate Road Campus, where performers displayed their wonderful talents such as singing, dancing and playing musical instruments.
The Show was organised by the Business Research Institute China Centre, with support from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. From the First Auditions six groups of performers made their way to the Final at which they competed for the top three places.
The event started with a drama performance ‘Cleaning is Everyone’s Responsibility’ by students from the Queen’s School Chester as guests, followed by audition performances. Students participating in the Talent Show come from different countries with various majors, including visiting students from South China Normal University and a visiting scholar from Xi’an Technological University who presented some wonderful songs. The organiser also invited a Chinese performer from a local Chinese community to play a piece of traditional Chinese music, ‘The Free Flowing Meditation Spirits’, with Zither (gu zheng), a traditional Chinese musical instrument which has been long regarded as the ‘oriental piano’.
The winner of the Final was Ricardo Martinez Cebrian, a piano teacher from Spain and a current student in Chester. He received his prizes including a certificate, a trophy and a gift voucher, for his breath-taking piano performance. Ricardo told the audience that he practiced playing the piano at least 8 hours at weekends. The 1st and 2nd Runner Ups were a dance group of three Chinese students and Belinda Ugwu respectively. The dance group combined the traditional jazz and K-POP, their passionate performance ignited the atmosphere. Belinda brought a peaceful song ‘Hallelujah’ to the audience and impressed the judges.
All of the final winners could get the opportunity to perform at the Chinese New Year Gala at the main theatre of Storyhouse in January 2020!
Thanks to everyone attending the Talent Show and big congratulations to all of the winners.
