Rui Vinhas da Silva was Chairman of the Board at COMPETE 2020 from December 2014 until May 2016. He has degrees in Business Management and Economics from York University in Toronto, Canada, an MBA from Aston Business School and a PhD and Post-Doctorate from Manchester Business School. Before joining ISCTE as an Associate Professor in April 2010, he was an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at Manchester Business School and a member of faculty since 1998. Over the years he was heavily involved in MBA teaching and PhD supervision at MBS for over 12 years. Throughout this period he was very actively involved in senior executive training programs and consultancy through Manchester Business School. These included regular appointments in bluechip programs, notably with PWC in Baskin Ridge, New Jersey, AMAC (Senior British military officers), TACIS (Senior executives from the former Soviet Union), or government officials in Port Dickson, Malaysia. Vinhas da Silva has research interests in the areas of national competitiveness, country branding, corporate reputation and country of origin effects having published books and numerous journal articles in both streams.
